Lazio can secure narrow win at Sassuolo

8th placed Sassuolo will play host to 6th placed Lazio on this final day of the Serie A season with both teams already knowing their immediate future in the Italian top flight in Sunday’s clash at the MAPEI Stadium.

Sassuolo have no chance of achieving a top six finish in Serie A as they trail their visitors by a significant nine-point margin with just one game remaining of the campaign, despite Sassuolo putting together an improved sequence of results in the season run-in.

The hosts have lost just one of their last eight matches overall which includes six victories, most notably a 2-1 win away at AC Milan at the San Siro, but Sassuolo will point towards a lean spell from early November through to early April which saw Sassuolo pick up just two wins from 13 matches as the period that really let them down.

Sassuolo have also lost just one of their last eight on home soil as well, but the draw has featured prominently as the hosts have been involved in four stalemates, and they’ll be without midfielder Magnagnelli for this clash.

Lazio are already assured of a top six finish as the visitors occupy 6th place and hold a seven-point lead over Roma, while the visitors also trail 5th placed Juventus by the same margin of points heading into this final match of the season.

Lazio will be disappointed with this season’s Serie A campaign as they missed out on Champions League football and will have to make do with Europa League instead.

Having managed just one win out of their last four matches, Lazio will be keen to end their season on a high note on Sunday.

However, the visitors haven’t exactly been convincing away from home in recent times as they’ve lost six of their last eight matches on their travels but they do hold a decent record away at Sassuolo in recent exchanges as Lazio are unbeaten in their last four visits to the MAPEI Stadium, winning three of these meetings.

Lazio are expected to be without the services of forward Caicedo (8 goals) and midfielder Correa (8 goals) but the likes of forward Immobile (20 goals) supported by midfielders Luis Alberto and Malinkovic-Savic give Lazio a decent chance of grabbing all three points on Sunday.
