The La Liga season took another twist over the weekend as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid finished nil-nil in a top-four clash. Real Madrid and Sevilla played a day later and their fixture ended 2-2.
Matchday 36 once again sees Barcelona two points behind Atletico Madrid in the standings and level with Real Madrid. The Blaugrana can go top of the table with a win on Tuesday night against Levante.
A victory would put pressure on the Madrid clubs, who will both play the following days. Atletico Madrid have the most difficult game of the three clubs as they will play Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
Levante are on a terrible run of form in La Liga. They are winless in five straight games with four ending in losses. The Frogs have lost back-to-back games against Barcelona in La Liga, but did claim a 3-1 win at home against the Catalans last season.
Ronald Koeman’s team took 10 points from the last 18 on offer in the league. They conceded nine times during that run but scored 12 goals.
The Blaugrana are unbeaten in their last two matches with a win over Valencia and draw with Atletico Madrid.
Levante are at the bottom of the league form table. They took four points from the last 18 available. Just four goals were scored by Levante during their last six games while conceding 11 times to opponents.
Manager Paco Lopez has three names on the Levante injury list going into the game. Nemanja Radoja is nursing an ankle injury and could miss out on the game.
Midfield Nikola Vukcevic is also fighting an injury. He could be left out of the fixture due to a groin strain. Defender Sergio Postigo has a sprained ankle and is a doubt to make the side.
Ansu Fati is out indefinitely for Barcelona and no return date is pencilled in for him. Fati underwent a third knee surgery last week. His recovery from the initial injury has not go well and has now had three operations in the last six months.
Philippe Coutinho is also ruled out of the midweek match due to a knee injury. He too underwent knee surgery and is recovering. Sergio Busquets suffered a broken jaw against Atletico Madrid at the weekend and will not play versus Levante.
Although Barcelona lost 3-1 in a shocker against Levante away last season, they should claim a victory on Tuesday night. The victory will move Barcelona to the top of the table for at least 24 hours.
