Man Utd tipped to reach Europa League final with easy second-leg win over Roma

Manchester United carry a mammoth 6-2 advantage into the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Roma, with the two sides clashing at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday.
The Italians stunned everyone by taking a 2-1 lead into half-time last week, thanks to goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Edin Dzeko. But after the break, the floodgates opened.
Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani both bagged a brace, before Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood completed the rout.
Man Utd enjoyed 64% possession and racked up 20 shots (11 on target), while Roma only saw 36% of the ball and managed just five shots (three on target).
It goes without saying that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men already have one foot in the final, but they can’t afford to be complacent in Rome.
AS Roma suffered a 2-0 loss to Sampdoria last weekend, meaning they have failed to win any of their previous four Serie A games (one draw, three losses).
Looking at the bigger picture, they have only picked up one win in their last eight league matches (two draws, five losses).
So, it is hardly surprising that Roma find themselves seventh in the Serie A standings – nine points behind sixth-place Lazio and 14 points outside the top four.
Having drawn with Ajax and lost to Man Utd, Roma are currently enduring a six-match winless run in all competitions.
On the flip side, Manchester United are on a 13-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, although their clash with Liverpool was called off on Sunday.
The Red Devils claimed five straight wins in England’s top-flight, before being held to a goalless draw by Leeds United.
Since dropping out of the Champions League earlier in the campaign, Solskjaer’s men have been immense in the Europa League this season – registering five wins and two draws in seven games.
They have also kept five clean sheets in the process, preventing Granada, AC Milan and Real Sociedad from scoring.
Bruno Fernandes has now bagged 26 goals and 16 assists in all competitions this term, including nine goals and four assists in 13 European outings.
Head-to-head: Man Utd have only lost once to Roma over the years, recording five wins and one draw along the way.
The Red Devils have now score over 5.5 goals on two occasions against Roma and are currently enjoying a three-game winning streak in this fixture.
Team news: Nicolo Zaniolo and Riccardo Calafiori are both injured for Roma, while Jordan Veretout, Leanardo Spinazzola and Pau Lopez are all doubts.
Man Utd have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the second leg, although Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain long-term absentees.
Given that Man Utd thrashed Roma in the first leg, Solskjaer’s side are expected to claim another easy win on Thursday.
