Manchester City could sacrifice FA Cup for European run

The Premier League is put to one side this weekend, as we have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup. The biggest tie of the round pits struggling Premier League champions Chelsea against big spending Manchester City on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

This game is a vital one for Chelsea, as it represents their only realistic chance of winning silverware this season. They are still in the Champions League, but it would take a brave man to predict a Blues triumph.

Manchester City are also in the Champions League and face a vital last-16 clash with Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday night. City boss Manuel Pellegrini has already stated he will rotate his squad for the visit to Chelsea.

The Citizens hopes of the Premier League title seem to be diminishing after highly damaging home defeats against title rivals Leicester and Tottenham in their last two games.

Those defeats in the league have made that European tie with Dynamo Kiev even more important, whilst the FA Cup is probably not in the grand scheme of things at the Manchester club.

Manchester City have spent a lot of money assembling a very good squad of players, so any eleven the Citizens put out should be a strong one. However, it seems that City would gladly sacrifice a run in the FA Cup this season for a sustained run in Europe’s elite competition this season.
