Villarreal to Continue Push for Europa League Place Against Getafe
3148

On Sunday, the 2nd of May we have a meeting between Villarreal and Getafe to look forward to in La Liga.

The match will be played at the Estadio de la Cerámica and the hosts begin the weekend in 7th place on 49 points while the visitors are in 15th place on 34 points and not yet safe from the relegation zone.

Villarreal come into the game having recorded a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final. The Yellow Submarine will feel as though they should have recorded a more comfortable victory and the penalty awarded to Arsenal should not have been given. Nonetheless, it was an important win for Villarreal who had lost their previous two fixtures, both of which were in La Liga.

In fact, Villarreal have lost 3 of their last 4 league games, with the defeats coming at Deportivo Alaves and at home against Osasuna and Barcelona. Villarreal have been struggling to win league games at home and they have picked up just a single victory from their last 7 La Liga fixtures at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Trends show both teams scored in Villarreal’s last 6 matches in all competitions. In addition, both teams have scored in 8 of their last 9 home La Liga games and Villarreal have been entertaining to watch.

Getafe come into the match having picked up a crucial 3 points in a 2-0 win at Huesca last weekend. That result ended a run of 7 games without a victory for Getafe and they have been struggling to record wins for some time in La Liga.

In fact, Getafe have won only two of their 15 most recent league matches, which is a poor record.

Away form in La Liga shows Getafe have recorded just a single victory from their last 8 league games on the road. They have lost 6 of those 8 matches but have managed to score 2 goals in each of their last two away fixtures. However, conceding goals has been a problem for Getafe and they have conceded goals in 8 of their last 10 away league games, including 2 or more goals in 5 of their last 8 away matches in La Liga.

Team news and Villarreal are without the suspended Manu Trigueros. Juan Foyth and Etienne Capoue are expected to miss out due to injury and there may be some rotation following the game on Thursday night.

Getafe could have Cucho available following an ankle injury but Erick Cabaco is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus problem.

Both teams need the points but for different reasons in what should be an entertaining game. We expect to see over 2.5 goals scored plus both teams find the back of the net. However, Villarreal have the quality to come through and take maximum points in their push for a top six place.
