Atlético Madrid vs SD Huesca - 22/04/2021
3521
Atletico Madrid are clinging onto first place in La Liga going into matchday 32. Los Rojiblancos are currently benefitting from a run of games against La Liga’s bottom of the table sides.
After a 5-0 thrashing of 20th-place Eibar, Atletico Madrid will face off with 17th-place Huesca on Thursday night. Diego Simeone’s team are unbeaten in two straight games and three points has them above second-place Real Madrid.
Barcelona are just five points back of Atletico Madrid. The Blaugrana have a game in hand and will play Atletico Madrid on May 5 in a massive fixture.
Huesca go into the fixture just outside of the relegation zone. A better head-to-head record has Huesca above Real Valladolid as the two sides sit on the same points (27).
Manager Pacheta witnessed a 1-0 loss to relegation rival Alaves in Hueca’s game at the weekend. The loss ended a three-game unbeaten streak for Huesca.
The reverse fixture between Atletico Madrid and Huesca ended in a nil-nil draw. The match was played all the way back in September just as the La Liga campaign got underway.
Their two previous fixtures played in 2018-19 ended with Atletico Madrid winning by identical 3-0 scorelines.
Simeone was without the team’s most influential player Luis Suarez at the weekend against Eibar. The striker could miss out once more against Huesca.
Atletico Madrid’s medical staff could withhold Suarez in a bid to get him fit to face Barcelona in May.
Joao Felix also missed the Eibar match due to injury. He has an ankle problem which could keep him out once more on Thursday. Winger Thomas Lemar is ruled out with a thigh muscle injury.
Pacheta has four players suffering from injuries. Defender Pablo Maffeo is ruled out until May with a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, there is hope that the trio of Javier Ontiveros, Gaston Silva, and Antonio Valera could all be fit to face Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid took 11 points from their last 18 on offer. They may be in first place, but are not favourites to win La Liga. Bookies have Barcelona at odds of 5/4 to win the Spanish title and Atletico Madrid at 11/8.
A win over Huesca will restore confidence in some La Liga onlookers that Atletico Madrid can lift the title. They should tally a victory over Huesca with under 2.5 goals scored.
Expect Atletico Madrid’s defence to keep a second straight clean sheet against the La Liga strugglers.
