Cardiff to hold Brentford in a vital Championship clash
4124

On Tuesday evening, Brentford host Cardiff City at Griffin Park, in what could be a massive game in the race for promotion in the Championship.

Time is running out for Brentford’s bid for automatic promotion this season. The Bees head into this game fourth-place in the table, but crucially eight points behind second-place Watford.

Thomas Frank’s team do have a game in hand on the Hornets, though. The fact that the Hornets face already-promoted Norwich on Tuesday also gives Brentford hope that they can still bridge the gap to Xisco’s team.

The Bees are unbeaten in seven games in the Championship. However, frustratingly for the home side, five of those matches have finished all square.

Rather uncharacteristically for the Bees, their recent league matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five Championship outings.

Brentford are also unbeaten in their previous five matches at Griffin Park. However, their last three league games on home soil have finished all square.

One bright spot throughout the season has been striker Ivan Toney, who has scored 29 league goals. They need the 25-year-old to step up his game in the final weeks of the campaign.

After a brief flirtation with the play-off spots, Cardiff City now look unlikely to make the Championship top-six. The team from the Welsh capital are 11 points adrift of the top-six with just four matches remaining.

A run of just one win in their last eight league outings seems to have put pay to their hopes a top-six finish this season.

Cardiff have been difficult to beat on their travels in the Championship of late, losing just one of their last ten away games. However, they have also won just one of their last five matches on their travels in the Championship.

Forebet predicts that this game will end in a draw, which would all but end Brentford’s hopes of securing automatic promotion this season.
