Real Madrid Travel to Anfield with the Advantage

We have an exciting match to look forward to in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday the 14th of April as Liverpool meet Real Madrid at Anfield.

This is the second leg of the quarter-final tie, with the first leg having finished 3-1 in favour of Real Madrid in Spain last week.

Liverpool come into the match having picked up a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on the weekend.

Liverpool were the better team in the first half but could not take their chances and it was Aston Villa who opened the scoring to lead 1-0 at half-time. However, following an equalising goal by Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the winning goal at the end of the game.

It was an important victory for Liverpool who had been struggling at home in the Premier League and gives them a chance of finishing inside the top four this season.

Prior to that match, Liverpool had won only one of their previous 9 home games, but the victory came in the Round of 16 in the Champions League against RB Leipzig.

Liverpool have won each of their last two home Champions League matches but only 3 of their last 6 on home soil. Liverpool have scored at least one goal in 9 of their 10 most recent home Champions League fixtures.

Real Madrid make the trip to Anfield having recorded an excellent 2-1 win over Barcelona in La Liga on the weekend. That result was enough to see them move top of the League in Spain but Atletico Madrid were still to play their fixture. Nonetheless, Real Madrid are now firmly in the mix to win the Spanish title this season.

In terms of the Champions League, Real Madrid made life tough for themselves during the group stage but have looked good in the knockout stages of the competition.

They have won each of their last 4 Champions League matches but only one of those was away from home, a 1-0 win against Atalanta in the Round of 16.

Away form in the Champions League is not great and Real Madrid have won 2 of their last 5 away games in the competition. However, they have been scoring goals on the road in the Champions League and have found the back of the net in 6 of their last 7 away matches.

Looking ahead to the team news and Liverpool continue without Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, and Virgil Van Dijk who are injured. It will be interesting to see who gets selected in attack, with Sadio Mane out of the starting XI on the weekend.

Real Madrid are without Lucas Vázquez, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, and Daniel Carvajal. Zinedine Zidane may select as close to the same starting XI from last week as possible.

This could be a close game, with Real Madrid knowing a clean sheet will be enough to take them through.

Liverpool are sure to press for goals but that could leave Real Madrid with chances on the break and the Spanish club could take the win by a single goal.
