Sassuolo are winless in their last three games in Serie A and hopes are fading that they can achieve Europa League football for next term. On Monday, the Neroverdi visit Benevento seeking to end their current side in the division.
Benevento sit in 15th place and eight points above the relegation zone. It has been a good season for Filippo Inzaghi’s team and safety has been nearly achieved. The Sorcerers are unbeaten in back-to-back Serie A games claiming four points from their last six available.
However, Benevento Calcio have won just once in their last 13 tries in Serie A. The two clubs have met three times since 2017 with Sassuolo posting two wins and a draw. Earlier this season, Sassuolo won 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Domenico Berardi. The goal came from the penalty spot.
Neither team go into the fixture in good form. Benevento took a mere five points from the last 18 on offer. They were outscored 12 to five during that six-game timeframe.
Sassuolo also took five points from the last 18 on offer to them. They were outscored 14 to 11 by opponents.
Inzaghi goes into the game with no new injuries. His squad has a clean bill of health for the weekend. Roberto De Zerbi has several names on the injury list at Sassuolo Calcio. Forward Gregoire Defrel is a doubt due to a muscle injury.
Defender Kaan Ayhan tested positive for COVID-19 and likely to miss out. Berardi, the goalscorer for Sassuolo in the reverse fixture is likely to miss the game with a muscle injury. De Zerbi could have the duo of Mehdi Bourabia and Filippo Romagna back from their respective injuries.
Sassuolo are coming off of a midweek match against Inter Milan that was originally postponed. The Neroverdi lost 2-1 to the Scudetto winners elect. Despite their poor form going into the match, Sassuolo should rebound against Benevento.
Benevento have not won any of their last six games at home. Although Sassuolo are struggling away from home currently, they should continue their excellent form against Benevento.
The trend of Sassuolo winning against the Sorcerers should continue. The Neroverdi are the better team on paper and should show it on the pitch.
Sassuolo’s last four games in Serie A ended with over 2.5 goals tallied. Three of Benevento’s last five games in the league saw more than 2.5 goals.
Both teams should get on the scoresheet with over 2.5 goals scored in this one.
