Montpellier will be keen to extend their current unbeaten run in the French top flight to 10 matches when they welcome Marseille to their Stade de la Mosson for Saturday evening’s fixture in Ligue 1.

This solid, if not stubborn, sequence of results has placed Montpellier in 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings and the hosts are just four points adrift of 5th placed Lens ahead of this weekend’s action in the French top flight with their prospects being enhanced by wins against Dijon, Lyon, Rennes and Bordeaux.

However, Montpellier have also been involved in a number of draws of late too (five of their last nine in fact have ended in stalemate), with four of these draws seeing both teams score in 1-1 draws.

Montpellier have won three of their last four matches at home though but they’ll be up against a rejuvenated Marseille outfit so this will be a tough clash for the hosts; the goals market appeals here as 13 of Montpellier’s 16 home matches have seen both teams score.

The hosts are expected to have only one absentee in the shape of midfielder Savanier who is sidelined with a hip injury.

Marseille are currently enjoying a new lease of life as the visitors have won three of their last four matches in Ligue 1 which has lifted them to within a point of 5th placed Lens prior to this Saturday’s important clash at the Stade de la Mosson.

Recent victories over Rennes, Brest and Dijon have been a welcome boost for the club since the departure of former manager, Andre Villas-Boas, but it should be noted that all three of these victories were registered on home turf at their Orange Vélodrome.

However, it’s a very different story with regards results away from home for Olympique Marseille as the visitors continue to struggle with their form on the road as they’ve failed to win any of their last nine matches on their travels, losing five of these nine.

This is in stark contrast to the start of the season where Marseille were unbeaten in their opening six away matches, winning five of these, so the goals market appeals again here.

Marseille have scored in 11 of their 15 away matches to date and will be pressing for a result here in order to jump into the top five, but they’re expected to be without the services of defenders Amavari and Nagatomo along with midfielder Rongier for this trip.

The previous two meetings have seen both teams score and this trend could continue on Saturday with both teams vying for a top five finish.
