Chelsea to Bounce Back with Win in Porto
9268

The quarter-final stage of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday the 7th of April and we have a meeting between Porto and Chelsea to enjoy.

The first leg of this tie will be played at the Estádio Do Dragão in Portugal but there will be no fans present in the stadium due to the current restrictions.

Porto come into the match having defeated Santa Clara 2-1 at home in the Portuguese league on the weekend.

The hosts required a last minute winning goal scored by Toni Martínez to claim maximum points but the result still leaves them 7 points adrift of Sporting Lisbon, who have a game in hand at the time of writing.

That result was a third successive victory for Porto having previously defeated Paços de Ferreira at home and Portimonense away.

Porto have won 4 of their last 5 matches in all competitions with the only defeat coming away from home in the Champions League against Juventus but the 3-2 loss after extra-time was enough to see them progress in the competition.

Porto are undefeated in 6 of their 7 most recent games in the Champions League and have picked up victories against Olympiakos, Marseille, and Juventus.

They are undefeated at home in the Champions League this season and Porto have kept a clean sheet in 3 of their 4 home Champions League games in the current campaign, including a 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

Chelsea make the trip to Portugal on the back of an extremely disappointing 5-2 home defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

It was a game Chelsea were expected to win comfortably but having seen central defender Thiago Silva sent off in the first half, Chelsea collapsed and went on to concede 5 goals in what became a bit of an embarrassment at Stamford Bridge.

However, despite being a huge setback in the quest for a top four place in the Premier League, it was Chelsea’s first defeat in 16 matches under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea have proven difficult to beat in the Champions League this season and they are undefeated in their 8 games. That includes each of their 4 away matches, which have all ended in victory.

Chelsea have managed to keep a clean sheet in 3 of their 4 away Champions League fixtures this season.

Team news and Porto will be without suspended attacking midfielder Sérgio Oliveira, which is a big blow. Mehdi Taremi is also suspended while Mouhamed Mbaye misses out due to injury.

Chelsea travel with doubts over the fitness of Christian Pulisic and Ngolo Kante. Every other player should be fit and available and it will be interesting to see if Timo Werner keeps his place in attack.

Without Sérgio Oliveira in their team, Porto may find it difficult to breakdown the visitors who will be determined to keep a clean sheet following their defeat on the weekend.

Chelsea have enough attacking talent to score and could come away with a narrow 1-0 win, leaving them in control on the tie.
