Lens and Lyon to both score in Ligue 1 return

Lens will be hoping that they can pick up where they left off in Ligue 1 on Saturday when they play host to 3rd placed Lyon as the hosts look to extend their unbeaten run in the French top flight to 10 matches overall.

Lens headed into the international break on the back of an impressive 2-1 win away from home at Strasbourg which became their fourth win in nine matches following earlier victories over Montpellier, Dijon and Saint-Etienne, while five draws have also helped RC Lens pick up some valuable points in their quest for a possible top five finish.

The hosts have been pretty consistent throughout this Ligue 1 campaign to date although they’ve struggled to convert one point into three in recent times on home turf at their Stade Bollaert-Delelis as Lens have drawn three of their last four.

The bigger picture shows that Lens have managed to register just two wins out of their last 11 matches at home but both teams have a chance of scoring as nine of Lens’s 14 home matches have seen both teams score.

Lens will be without defender Medina who is suspended following an accumulation of yellow cards.

Lyon will be looking to bounce back from their 4-2 defeat at home to Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, just before the international break but the visitors have had time to re-group and will be more than aware of Lens’s struggles o pick up home wins of late ahead of this clash.

The visitors have lost just twice in their last 10 matches in the French top flight as they too have produced some consistent displays, and both of their losses during this period were actually inflicted upon them at their Groupama Stadium with defeats to Montpellier and the aforementioned PSG.

However, this upcoming clash at Lens may well suit Lyon who have appeared to be more comfortable on the road so far this season as they’ve suffered just the one defeat in 15 matches to date on their travels and they’re unbeaten in their last 13 away matches too.

Lyon have picked up eight away wins during this sequence along with six draws while 10 of Lyon’s 15 away matches have also seen both teams score as well but they’ll have to do without midfielder Aouar and defender Benlamri who are both injured.

Both Lens and Lyon are in pretty good nick overall and both should score here.
