Cameroon to finish off in style against Rwanda
2458

Cameroon will be eager to end their Africa Cup of Nations campaign off on a winning note following their disappointing 3-1 defeat away from home at Cape Verde Islands last time out but the hosts have already qualified for the finals tournament.

Thanks to a four-match unbeaten start to their qualifying campaign in Group F which saw Cameroon pick up 10 points by way of a point in a 0-0 draw at home with Cape Verde Islands which was then followed by three wins on the trot, Cameroon have safely booked their passage into the finals.

Victories over Rwanda 1-0 away, a crushing 4-1 home win over Mozambique and a 2-0 win away against the same opponents, Cameroon have emerged head and shoulders above the rest of the competition in the group.

Cameroon hold a three-point lead over 2nd placed Cape Verde Islands and all there’s left to do now is to sort out who finishes top of Group F, and having beaten Wednesday’s opponents, Rwanda, in three of their previous four meetings, the hosts will be in confident mood here.

Onto Rwanda, and the visitors sit in 3rd place in Group F due to picking up just the one win from their five group matches to date and they face a tough final group match away at Cameroon on Wednesday, knowing that they’ve already failed to qualify for the finals.

Rwanda’s qualifying campaign was virtually over after the opening two matches of this group phase following early back-to-back defeats against Mozambique 2-0 away from home and then a 1-0 loss at home to Cameroon.

Although they’ve since managed to turn things around in their subsequent three matches by virtue of picking up points in draws with Cape Verde Islands home and away both in 0-0 stalemates along with a 1-0 home win over bottom nation, Mozambique, it’s been too little too late for the visitors.

Rwanda’s lack of victories has been a common theme though in the qualifying stages of this tournament as the bigger picture shows that Rwanda have registered just one win out of their last 13 Nations Cup qualifiers overall.

The visitors have managed just two away wins in qualifying out of 17 away matches played and they look set to come away from Cameroon empty-handed as well.
