This week qualifying for World Cup 2022 takes place in Europe, with many teams dreaming of taking part in next years big event.
Two of the countries hoping for a chance to get Qatar are Bulgaria and Switzerland, who meet on Thursday night in Sofia in Group C of qualifying.
The home team have gone through something of a barren spell since hitting the headlights at the 1994 World Cup.
In fact, they have failed to qualify for a World Cup finals since 1998. Their last major tournament qualification was when they made it to Euro 2004.
Recent results suggest that Yasen Petrov’s team are a long shot to make Qatar 2022, as they have won just one of their last nine international matches while suffering six defeats in the process.
Bulgaria have also won just one of their previous five World Cup qualifiers while suffering three defeats. It is fair to say that the home side has not been in great shape of late in the international game.
Unlike Bulgaria, Switzerland have featured in the last three World Cup finals, reaching the knockout stages on two occasions.
Their best performance at a World Cup finals was in 1954 when they made the quarter-finals of the competition.
With Italy the favourites to take the one automatic qualification spots, Switzerland will be eying up the runners-up spot as they arguably looked the best placed of any of the team in the group to take second spot.
However, the visitors have struggled for results in the international game of late, as they have won just one of their last eight international outings.They have also won just one of their last nine away games.
With both teams in underwhelming recent form, it is of little surprise that Forebet predicts that this game will finish in a goalless draw.
