Jorge Sampaoli has revitalised Marseille since taking over for Andre Villas-Boas. The Olympians are up to fifth place in Ligue 1 and are winners of two straight games.

On Saturday, Marseille travel to the Allianz Riviera to face off with derby rivals Nice. The 2020-21 season has not gone to plan for Nice.

They are in 12th place and saw coach Patrick Vieira sacked in December. Despite spending heavily in recent seasons, Nice are nine points off of the top five.

Marseille could take a step closer to the top three and Champions League qualification for next term. They are just five points off of both second-placed Paris Saint-Germain and third-placed Lyon. Those two sides will play on Sunday.

The Olympians have won seven straight Ligue 1 games against Nice. Earlier this season, Olympique Marseille claimed a 3-2 victory at home. Goals from Alvaro Gonzalez and Saif-Eddine Khaoui found the back of the net for Marseille in the first half.

Nice didn’t get onto the scoresheet until after halftime thanks to Amine Gouiri. Marseille’s Khaoui added a third for the team. Nice’s Malik Sellouki pulled a goal back for the team in the 87th minute, making the final score look closer than the game actually was in reality.

Marseille took 11 points from the last 18 on offer in Ligue 1, scoring nine times and allowing seven goals to opponents. Their last two league matches finished in wins. Nice took seven points from 18 possible and were outscored 10-9 in those six games.

Nice manager Adrian Ursea has six players on the injury list going into the weekend. Midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide is ruled out for the remainder of the sea with a knee injury. Defender Dante has an ACL injury and will miss the rest of the season.

Defender Youcef Atal is unlikely to play due to a groin muscle strain. Forward Rony Lopes and midfielder Danilo Barbosa are likely to miss the game with thigh muscle injuries. Meanwhile, Hichem Boudaoui has a meniscus injury and will not play.

Sampaoli has two players struggling with injuries. Midfielder Valentin Rongier has a tendon injury while defender Jordan Amavi sustained a thigh strain. Both players could return for the weekend’s match.

Marseille have been brilliant against Nice in their last seven meetings in Ligue 1.

The Olympians should post an eighth straight win with both teams finding the back of the net and over 2.5 goals tallied.
