Monaco and Lille to both score in tasty clash

The Stade Louis II will provide the venue for arguably the most attractive fixture in this weekend’s Ligue 1 action as 4th placed Monaco play host to the current league leaders, Lille, with a valuable three points at stake for both teams in their quest for European spots and league titles respectively.

Monaco’s bid for a place in the Europa League qualifiers took a dent following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away at Strasbourg but the hosts return to their Stade Louis II this Sunday where they’ll be keen to rekindle the sort of form which saw the Principality club put together an impressive 12-match unbeaten run overall.

10 wins within this 12-match sequence has helped Monaco up into contention for a spot in European competition for next season while form and results at home in this campaign have been equally as solid, losing just once so far this season.

Monaco have produced a healthy return of 9 wins, 4 draws and just 1 defeat at home this term but they’ll be without midfielders Martins and Tchoumeni along with forwards Geubbels and Pellegri for this clash.

Nine of Monaco’s 14 home matches have seen both teams score.

Lille will be looking to not only extend their impressive unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to 11 matches but the visitors will also be very aware that they cannot afford to slip up with the likes of PSG breathing down their necks and just two points behind Lille.

Nevertheless, Lille have picked up eight wins out of their last 10 matches which has helped maintain their position at the summit of Ligue 1 while form overall has continued to impress with Lille winning their last seven away matches on the trot.

They too have suffered only one defeat in their 13 matches away from home so far in what has been a successful campaign for Christophe Galtier’s side who are chasing their first Ligue 1 title since the 2010/11 season.

Six of Lille’s 13 away matches have also produced goals for both teams but they’ll be up against a different Monaco outfit this time around, so there’s no guarantees of a three-point haul this Sunday for Lille.

Forward Yilmaz (calf injury) is expected to miss out here while defender Jose Fonte is rated as doubtful.

The previous two meetings have resulted in both teams scoring and this trend may continue on Sunday too.
