Arminia Bielefeld host Werder Bremen on Wednesday in the only midweek game taking place in the Bundesliga this week.

A six-match winless run means that Arminia currently sit sixteenth in the table – nine points ahead of last-place Schalke and two points from safety.

Meanwhile, a two-game unbeaten streak has lifted Werder to twelfth in the standings – eight points clear of Arminia.

Arminia have only managed to win five of their 23 league games this season, recording four draws and 14 defeats along the way.

Only Schalke have scored fewer Bundesliga goals than Bielefeld this term, with just 18 goals scored and 41 conceded.

When Arminia Bielefeld took seven points from a possible nine in January, things started to look up for the relegation strugglers.

Victories over Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart, along with a draw against Hoffenheim, gave Arminia a much-needed lifeline.

However, Bielefeld have since suffered four defeats one two draws in their last six outings, making relegation a very real threat.

On the flip side, Werder also looked destined to be involved in a relegation battle after making a woeful start to the season.

A nine-game winless run – five draws and four defeats – from October to December saw Bremen plummet down the table.

But since then, Werder Bremen have only lost three of their last 11 Bundesliga games, picking up four wins and four draws in the process.

Werder shocked everyone by securing an unexpected 2-1 victory over high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt two weekends ago, before drawing 1-1 with FC Koln on Sunday.

It is also worth pointing out that Werder boast a better defensive record than Bayern Munich, having conceded just 33 goals this term.

Head-to-head: Werder claimed a 1-0 victory over Arminia in the reverse fixture back in October, ending a run of two games without a win against Bielefeld.

In fact, Arminia are unbeaten in four of their last six meetings with Werder, picking up two goalless draws and two 3-1 wins in the process.

Team news: Arminia have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Wednesday’s clash, while Werder will be without Patrick Erras, Michael Zetterer and Luca Plogmann.

Three of the last five meetings between these sides have produced over 3.5 goals, so both teams are likely to get plenty of chances this time around.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score over 1.5 goals on Wednesday. However, the draw is looking like the most probable outcome.
