Bologna to record narrow win over Benevento

A resounding 3-0 win away from home at Parma was perhaps unexpected but certainly very welcome for Bologna as they prevented previous back-to-back defeats against Juventus and AC Milan from turning into anything more serious.

Bologna will return to their Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Friday evening where they’ll be looking to post back-to-back wins in Serie A for only the second time in this Italian top flight campaign, the last time being back in November when they recorded wins against Sampdoria 2-1 away and followed that up with a 1-0 home win against Crotone.

Although Bologna have picked up just two wins out of their last 12 matches overall, the hosts have nevertheless picked up important points along the way in five draws which has helped them steer clear of dropping further down the Serie A table to the bottom three.

Bologna have produced mixed results at home as underlined by their record at home which has posted 4 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats.

It’s interesting to note that although their four losses were against top eight opposition, they’ve picked up their wins against teams sitting in the bottom half with the exception of 9th placed Hellas Verona.

Benevento dropped down to 14th place in the Serie A table following a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria on the weekend which extended Benevento’s winless streak in Serie A to five matches which consists of three defeats and just two draws.

Losses to Atalanta 4-1, Crotone 4-1 and Inter Milan 4-0 have far outweighed Benevento’s minimal success in recent draws with Torino and Sampdoria, but although they’ve won just four out of their last 18 matches overall, three of these four wins have been collected on the road.

Victories at Fiorentina, Udinese and Cagliari show that Benevento are capable of picking up the odd victory away from home in the Italian top flight but they have lost their last two outings on the trot at the aforementioned Crotone and Inter Milan though, conceding four goals in each of these last two matches.

In addition, Benevento’s last visit to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara ended in a heavy 3-0 loss to Bologna and although it may not be as convincing this Friday evening, Bologna could repeat with another victory here.
