Chelsea to continue renaissance under Thomas Tuchel
2867

Anyone complaining that Chelsea’s problems weren’t Frank Lampard have been proven wrong – for now – by Thomas Tuchel. The former Paris Saint-Germain coach has Chelsea on a three-match unbeaten streak and looking more dangerous than ever.

The Blues are coming off of a midweek 1-0 win versus Tottenham Hotspur away from home thanks to a Jorginho penalty. Now, they head to Yorkshire to play Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are rock bottom of the Premier League table with a mere 11 points from 66 available. Chris Wilder’s team have shown signs of life in recent weeks defeating Manchester United away and West Brom in midweek.

Chelsea took 10 points from their last 18 on offer in the league. They struggled to score goals during that timeframe, bagging just five. They did allow a mere five goals to opponents. Tuchel’s defence has not given up a goal since he arrived a Stamford Bridge a week and a half ago.

Sheffield United took nine points from their last 18 on offer. It is a shocking turnaround in form as the club went so long without winning a single match. They scored six goals and conceded eight to opponents during that six-match timeframe.

The Blades have won two of their last three at Bramall Lane. So, does that mean Sheffield United will win at home versus Chelsea? The Blues have won two of their last three away from Stamford Bridge. They lost last season at Bramall Lane 3-0 in a shock result under Lampard.

The former manager failed to defeat Sheffield United in two games in 2019-20, but the Blues thrashed the Blades earlier this season 4-1.

Wilder has six players on his injury list ahead of the weekend. Sander Berge remains ruled out with a thigh issue. George Baldock, Jack Robinson, and Jack O’Connell are also ruled out of action. Wilder is unlikely to have either Enda Stevens or Ben Osborn available.

Tuchel is without Thiago Silva after he went off injured versus Spurs on Thursday night. Andreas Christiansen took his place and should do again on Sunday. Kai Havertz and Kurt Zouma both have knocks. They could return to the squad for the fixture.

Chelsea should continue their trend of clean sheets against Sheffield United. The defence is improving under Tuchel – far better than when Lampard was manager. Chelsea should win to nil and strengthen their case for a top-four finish.
