Manchester United to go joint-top of PL tale with win over Everton

After experiencing a bump in the road against Sheffield United, Manchester United got back on track with a resounding 9-0 win versus Southampton in midweek.

Expectations have once again been raised that Manchester United can win the Premier League title. They go into matchday 23 just three points back of Manchester City in the standings.

Manchester City go to Anfield on Sunday, a stadium they have not won at in around 20 years. They could drop points allowing the chasing pack to edge closer in the title race.

Everton visit Old Trafford on Saturday evening looking to strengthen their chances of making the top four. The Toffees are four points off of the top four going into the weekend. Carlo Ancelotti’s team have been more cold than hot in recent games. They did defeat Leeds United 2-1 away in midweek.

Manchester United took 11 points from their last 18 on offer. They outscored opponents 13-3 with two of those three goals being scored by Sheffield United in their shock loss.

Everton took 10 points from 18 on offer. Goals have dried up for the club and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Just six goals were scored by the Toffees in their last six games. The good news is that the defence allowed just six goals against.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be without striker Edinson Cavani. He is nursing an ankle injury and will be decided on before the match if fit. Phil Jones remains sidelined with an injury as well.

Ancelotti is unlikely to have defensive midfielder Allan back in time for the game due to a thigh muscle injury. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could also miss out. He has a chest issue. Jean-Philippe Gbamin remains sidelined with a long-term fitness issue.

Everton have won their last four away matches in the league. However, their form against Manchester United over the course of their last six meetings has been poor. Manchester United posted a 3W-2D-1L record against Everton in their last six matches.

That run includes back-to-back wins for Manchester United. The Red Devils are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 games in all competitions versus Everton.

Manchester United should continue their trend of wins versus Everton this weekend. Cavani and Martial scored in their previous match this season.

Martial could get on the scoresheet again but don’t count out Bruno Fernandes, who leads Manchester United with 12 goals. The Red Devils should win and draw level with Manchester City for at least 24 hours.
