PSG to extend Marseille’s woes

Sunday’s action in the French top flight features the clash between Marseille and PSG as the two teams face off at the Orange Velodrome with a precious three points up for grabs for both teams.
Marseille are without a win in Ligue 1 for five matches now and the host’s prospects of a top six finish appear to be fading as each match passes as the the hosts have suffered recent defeats against Nimes, Lens and Monaco which has left Marseille sitting in a disappointing 9th place.
Indeed, Marseille’s worrying run of results in Ligue 1 now extends to nine matches as they’ve managed to register just one win out of these nine games which came in the shape of a 3-1 home win over Montpellier, but also includes five defeats.
Results at home also seem to have taken a turn for the worse as Marseille have lost their last two home matches on the trot which followed a solid sequence of results which saw Marseille suffer just one defeat from their preceding eight matches at home.
PSG dropped down to 3rd place in Ligue 1 following a surprise 3-2 defeat away at lowly Lorient last weekend but the Paris club redeemed themselves in midweek by recording a bounce-back 3-0 home win against Nimes which should set them up nicely for this upcoming clash at Marseille on Sunday.
Overall form has been pretty steady for PSG as that loss to Lorient has been the only blot on their copy-book in their last nine matches, which also includes six wins during this period.
PSG also possess a reasonable looking record away from home which consists of six wins, two draws and three defeats and includes the second-best goalscoring record away from home in Ligue 1 and the joint second-best defensive record on the road too.
With these two factors combined with an impressive record over their hosts, Marseille, PSG look set to further add to their points tally here as the visitors look to not only jump back into the top two positions in the French top flight, but also take over at the summit of Ligue 1.
PSG have held the upper hand over their hosts in recent exchanges as they’ve won six of the previous seven meetings against Marseille and this Sunday looks like being no exception.
