Lyon to win four on trot when Strasbourg visit

Saturday evening’s hosts, Lyon, will be keen to wrestle back top spot of Ligue 1 when they welcome 15th placed Strasbourg to their Groupama Stadium where the hosts will be looking to collect a fourth league win on the trot.
Lyon seem to have recovered from a recent mini-blip which saw them held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes before suffering an unexpected 1-0 defeat at home to Metz as they’ve bounced back in impressive style by recording wins against Saint-Etienne 5-0, Bordeaux 2-1 and Dijon 1-0, which has helped them to within two points of the new league leaders, Lille.
The hosts have lost just twice overall throughout this season’s Ligue 1 campaign and Lyon have been pretty consistent all term, while results at home have also been impressive; seven wins, three draws and just one defeat at their Groupama Stadium underlines how hard the hosts have been to beat on home turf.
In addition, Lyon have scored two goals or more in eight of their 11 home matches to date this term and they’ll be looking to add to their goal-tally on Saturday.
Strasbourg currently occupy 15th place on the Ligue 1 ladder but they do possess a useful six-point cushion between themselves and the third from bottom outfit, Lorient, prior to this weekend’s action in the French top flight.
Recent results have seen Strasbourg produce mixed returns as the visitors have registered wins against Nimes, Lens and Saint-Etienne, but have also been handed defeats by Bordeaux, PSG and Reims.
Still, the second half of this season has been a marked improvement upon the first half of the campaign for Strasbourg as they started in poor fashion, losing nine of their opening 11 matches of the new term.
However, although they’ve lost just a further three matches from their subsequent 12 matches thereafter, Strasbourg face an extremely tough evening at the office on Saturday as they’re not only facing a Lyon side who’ll be desperate to return to the top of Ligue 1 but also a side who have won two of the previous three encounters against them.
Both of these wins, incidentally, were achieved away from home with Lyon winning 3-2 and 2-1 respectively, and being back on home turf here should see the hosts over the line again.
