On Thursday afternoon, struggling Farense host Santa Clara in the Primeira Liga, as the home side look to move out of the relegation zone.
Farense are bottom of the Portuguese top-flight table, but the fight for survival is such a tight one that a victory in this clash would move the home team out of the drop zone.
However, illustrated by their position in the table, wins have not been easy to come by for Farense in recent months. The team based in the Algarve have won just once in their last six Primeira Liga games while losing on four occasions.
They have also scored just once in their last four matches in the Portuguese top-flight. Due to their recent lack of goals, Farense’s recent league matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings in the Primeira Liga.
Farense have a decent record on home soil of late, as a 1-0 loss against Porto in their last home match ended a four-game unbeaten run at the Estadio de Sao Luis.
Santa Clara are in the unusual position of being seventh-place in the table, but being closer to the relegation play-off berth than the European spots. A ten-point gap to the top-five seems a difficult one to bridge, while they are seven points clear of the bottom three.
Daniel Ramos’ team heads into this clash on the back of two straight wins against Rio Ave and Belenenses. The latter saw the visitors keep their first clean sheet in 13 league outings.
Santa Clara have enjoyed mixed fortunes of late on their travels, winning three, losing two and drawing one of their last six outings in the Primeira Liga.
Forebet predicts that Santa Clara will dent Farense’s survival by recording a victory in a low-scoring clash.
