Wednesday night’s hosts, Lens, have produced mixed results of late in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign as they’ve registered two wins, one draw but three defeats in their last six matches overall in the French top flight.

Interestingly, their two wins during this sequence were both achieved away from home with wins at tonight’s opponents, Marseille, in a 1-0 win on the road along with last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Montpellier.

That recent win at Montpellier has lifted Lens up into 7th place in Ligue 1 and just two points adrift of 5th placed Rennes prior to these midweek fixtures, but form and results on home turf at their Stade Bollaert-Delelis have left a lot to be desired.

Having gained just one win out of their last seven matches at home, Lens look far from a guaranteed three-point haul here especially as four of these seven matches ended in defeats to Angers, Montpellier, Strasbourg and Nice.

Five of Lens’s 10 home matches to date though have resulted in under 2.5 goals, as too five of the previous eight meetings against Marseille as well.

Marseille’s indifferent form in Ligue 1 continued last time out when the visitors were handed a heavy 3-1 loss away from home at Monaco which not only became Marseille’s third league defeat on the trot but also resulted in Marseille dropping down to 9th place in the Ligue 1 standings.

The visitors have achieved just one win out of their last eight matches overall which came in the shape of a 3-1 home win over Montpellier, but otherwise it’s been a pretty lean period for Andre Villas-Boas’s side.

This slump in form is in stark contrast to Marseille’s preceding six matches beforehand which saw the visitors put together an impressive six-match winning streak which had seemingly set Marseille on course for a possible top five finish in Ligue 1.

However, Marseille have since imploded in dramatic fashion and their current string of results haven’t been helped by the fact that they’ve lost three out of their last four matches on their travels as well.

Defeats at Rennes, Angers and Monaco haven’t done them any favours and their current form doesn’t make them a convincing prospect for a win here either.

With both sides struggling, the prospect of goals could be low here.
