Both Inter Milan and Juventus progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night, with each being taken into extra-time by their respective opponents. Attention shifts back to Serie A this weekend and the ongoing title race.

Inter sit 2nd in the table, 2pts behind local-rivals AC, while Juventus are in 4th spot with some catching up to do.

Surprisingly, Inter Milan haven’t beaten Juventus since 2016. Juventus have won five of the pair’s last seven competitive encounters since that year, all of which have arrived in Serie A.

Both teams have scored in four of the duo’s last six competitive and non-competitive head-to-heads, suggesting that there is reason to expect goals in Sunday’s clash.

The performances of both teams in recent weeks point towards this weekend’s game potentially being packed with goals. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in each of Inter’s last six fixtures and both teams have scored in all of those games as well. Both teams have scored in Juventus’ last four outings and over 3.5 goals have been produced in five of the visitors’ last six matches in all competitions.

Juventus have scored at least three goals in five of their last six games, so Inter Milan will be hard-pressed to stop this Juventus goal-machine from finding the back of the net on Sunday.

Likewise, Inter Milan have scored at least two goals in five of their last six fixtures, making it unlikely that there will be a clean sheet on offer from either side at the end of the 90-minutes.

The hosts could be without Sensi, Darmian, D’Ambrosio, and Pinamonti this weekend due to injury. Juventus won’t be able to call upon Chiesa or Dybala on Sunday as both players are out injured, while doubts remain over de Ligt, Cuadrado and Sandro.

Everything is pointing towards Sunday’s big game in Serie A producing plenty of goals. Juventus head into the game as the form favourites with five wins and one defeat from their last six matches and the visitors appear to have the wind beneath their sails right now.

The hosts have been finding the back of the net on a regular basis though, so we could have ourselves a five-goal thriller on our hands with Juventus claiming a 3-2 win.
