Montpellier and Monaco to both score in Ligue 1 clash

8th placed Montpellier will be looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they entertain high-flying Monaco at their Stade de la Mosson on Friday night but having failed to win any of their last five matches, the hosts could be up against it here.

Three defeats within these last five matches have seen Montpellier slump to losses against Metz, Lille and Marseille while draws with Brest and Nantes in 2-2 and 1-1 stalemates have seen them pick up useful points but have ultimately been outweighed by the defeats.

As a result, Montpellier now trail 5th placed Rennes by a margin of five points but there’s no guarantees of a revival on home turf at their Stade de la Mosson against Monaco as the hosts have lost three of their last four matches in their own backyard.

With overall results at home producing an inconsistent return so far this season, the goals market therefore appeals here especially the both teams to score option as seven of Montpellier’s 10 home matches have seen both teams hit the back of the net.

Onto Monaco, and the visitors lifted themselves up into 4th place on the Ligue 1 ladder on the weekend with a rousing 3-0 home win over Angers which became Monaco’s third league win in four matches in the French top flight.

Earlier victories over Dijon and Lorient, the latter being a 5-2 thrashing away from home, have indicated that Monaco are showing signs of returning to their former glory and they’ll certainly fancy their chances of extending their current unbeaten run of matches to five when they make their way to Montpellier for this Friday night encounter.

However, results away from home have been a little inconsistent for the visitors as they’ve won four but lost five of their nine matches on their travels to date in Ligue 1 although they do head into this upcoming tussle on the back of two away wins on the trot at Dijon and Lorient respectively.

Six of Monaco’s nine matches away from home have also seen both teams score and as their form on the road has been a little erratic.

Forebet predicts the both teams to score market appeals again here as the visitors are capable of scoring and conceding in equal measure.
