Athletic Bilbao to bounce back against Huesca

Friday night sees a bottom half clash in La Liga when 13th placed Athletic Bilbao play host to 19th placed Huesca at the San Mamés Barria as both teams go in search of three very valuable points in their bid to avoid a relegation battle.

Despite occupying 13th place in the Spanish top flight and three points ahead of visitors, Huesca, Athletic Bilbao’s recent results have seen the hosts fail to win any of their last four matches in La Liga having suffered defeats to Celta Vigo and Real Madrid, but they have picked up points in draws with Getafe and Valencia.

On home turf at their San Mamés Barria, defeats to Cadiz and Celta Vigo have book-ended three wins on the trot in-between times as Athletic Bilbao grabbed maximum points against Levante 2-0, Sevilla 2-1 and a 4-0 thrashing of Real Betis which should still give the hosts belief that they can return to winning ways this Friday night.

In addition, Athletic Bilbao have held the upper hand in recent exchanges against Huesca, winning each of the previous three meetings on the trot with 1-0, 4-0 and 4-0 victories respectively.

Huesca find themselves in early trouble near the foot of La Liga as the visitors occupy second from bottom in La Liga but they’re now just three points within range of their hosts prior to this important Friday night clash in the Spanish top flight.

After a frustrating start to this new La Liga campaign which saw Huesca fail to win any of their opening 12 matches of the new term, the visitors finally got off the mark with a 1-0 home win against 15th placed Deportivo Alaves on the weekend at their Estadio El Alcoraz.

Four defeats and eight draws had been the product of their 12 matches prior to the weekend win.

They’ll no doubt be hoping that this kick-starts their season as they look to lift themselves out of the bottom three but without an away win from their last 14 matches on the road, they could be up against it in Bilbao.

Indeed, Huesca have actually managed to win just one out of their last 25 matches on their travels and along with their recent poor history against Athletic Bilbao, the visitors could struggle again on Friday night.
