Real Betis to have work cut out against Villarreal
3169

Sunday’s hosts, Real Betis, will be seeking back-to-back wins in the Spanish top flight when they play host to high-flying Villarreal at their Estadio Benito Villamarín following last weekend’s 2-0 win away at Osasuna in La Liga.

That welcome win ended run of three straight defeats for Real Betis who had previously slumped to defeats against Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Eibar, but although Real Betis have tended not to deal in draws and have picked up five wins to date this term, the hosts have also lost seven matches which has outweighed their successes.

Only two of these five wins for Real Betis have been achieved on home turf at their Estadio Benito Villamarín though which have come in the shape of victories over second from bottom club, Real Valladolid, and Elche, while defeats to Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Eibar has meant a mixed start to the La Liga season for Real Betis.

In addition, Real Betis have lost the last two meetings on the trot against their visitors, losing 2-0 at home and a heavy 5-1 loss on the road.

Villarreal currently occupy 3rd place on the La Liga ladder as the visitors have made an impressive start to this Spanish top flight campaign, losing just once so far this season which was an understandable 4-0 loss away from home at Barcelona earlier in the season.

That defeat aside, Villarreal have produced some solid results and have been pretty consistent as they’ve put together a nine-match unbeaten run heading into this Sunday’s clash away at Real Betis.

Recent wins against Deportivo Alaves, Valencia, Real Valladolid and Getafe have helped maintain Villarreal’s ambitions for a possible top four finish in what has been an open start to this La Liga season, while results away from home have been pretty steady.

The bigger picture also shows that Villarreal have suffered just two defeats out of their last 10 matches on their travels which were at the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but five wins and three draws indicate Villarreal’s solid nature on the road in La Liga.

Real Betis haven’t had things all their own way at home and indeed have picked up more wins on the road while Villarreal look the better equipped to get the points here.
