Southampton to continue excellent form against Brighton
7784

Brighton will host Southampton on Monday night football as the two south coast clubs clash in a big game for both sides.

Southampton have been brilliant this season. They go into matchday 11 in sixth place in the league and can move as high as third place with a win and results going their way elsewhere.

Brighton, on the other hand, are 16th and fighting relegation once more. The Seagulls are unbeaten in three straight games claiming five points from nine. Last weekend, they got a fortunate draw versus Liverpool as VAR made three controversial calls, all costing Liverpool goals.

Southampton are unbeaten in five straight trips to the Amex Stadium to play Brighton in all competitions. Last season, Southampton claimed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond.

The Saints were helped by a first-half red card handed out to Brighton’s Florin Andone. Both Southampton goals came in the second half.

Graham Potter has eight players on his injury list for matchday 11. Adam Lallana is the latest player to be ruled out.

The oft-injured midfielder came on as a substitute against Liverpool, never touched the ball, and went off around 10 minutes after coming on with another injury.

Andone is also ruled out of the game while long-term absentee Jose Izquierdo is unlikely to make the team. Neal Maupay and Alexis Mac Allister are both like to make the team, but must pass late fitness tests first.

Ralph Hassenhuttl’s team were expected to fall away from the top of the table when Danny Ings went down with a knee injury.

After a successful, minor operation, Ings is on his way back to full fitness. He is unlikely to be ready for Monday night, but should be back soon.

Meanwhile, Redmond, Mohamed Salisu, and William Smallbone are all unlikely to make the team due to their respective injuries.

Southampton are coming off of a 3-2 loss to Manchester United. They conceded three times in the second half to fall to the loss after taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. If Southampton can replicate that first-half performance against Brighton, they should come away with another victory.

The Saints are on a four-match unbeaten streak on the road. They have scored nine times while allowing eight goals to opponents. Brighton have not won at home this season. They have drawn three straight games at the Amex, however.

The Seagulls’ luck of drawing games at home should end on Monday night as Southampton get another win away from home. Expect over 2.5 goals scored as both sides find the back of the net in a Southampton win.
