The French top flight season resumes after the international break on Friday night and features the tasty clash between Monaco and PSG in Ligue 1 with the hosts going in search of a third league win on the trot.
Monaco started this new Ligue 1 campaign in positive fashion, winning two of their opening three matches of the new season with victories over Metz and Nantes along with a point in a draw with Reims, but the hosts subsequently slumped to just one win from their following five matches.
That success came in the shape of a 3-2 home win against Strasbourg but this sequence also included three defeats to Rennes, Brest and Lyon, all of which were away from home - while at their Stade Louis II, Monaco still remain unbeaten having won three and drawn two to date on home turf.
The bigger picture shows that Monaco have suffered just two defeats out of their last 16 matches at the Stade Louis II, one of which was a heavy 4-1 loss at home to Friday’s opponents, PSG.
After a shaky start to the new Ligue 1 season which saw the visitors lose back-to-back against Lens and Marseille, PSG have subsequently hit their straps by winning the following eight matches on the trot which has lifted them to the summit of the French top flight.
Indeed, PSG possess a five-point lead at the top over 2nd placed Lille thanks to this impressive winning streak which also includes seven clean sheets, while scoring a total of 26 goals in the process as well.
PSG have also got into their stride on the road too as the visitors have won their last four away matches on the trot at Nice 3-0, Reims 2-0, Nimes 4-0 and a 3-0 victory at Nantes while the bigger picture is just as impressive as PSG have lost just two of their last 17 matches on their travels.
The visitors hold an excellent record against their Friday night’s hosts, Monaco, as they’ve won 10 of the last 11 encounters between the two teams.
They’ll be seeking a ninth win on the trot on Friday night as the Parisiens look to further extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 ahead of this weekend’s action.
