The Estadio Wanda Metropolitano provides the venue for this upcoming intriguing battle between Atletico Madrid and newcomers, Cadiz, with a valuable three points up for grabs for both teams who could move level on points with league leaders, Real Sociedad.
In what has been a totally open and uncharacteristic La Liga season so far, Atletico Madrid will be itching to make the most of home advantage here and steal a march on their main rivals in the pecking order, Real Madrid, with a win over Cadiz on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid gained a useful point on the road during the week in the Champions League when they held Russian Premier League side, Lokomotiv Moscow, to a 1-1 draw as the hosts continued their fightback in the competition.
Saturday’s hosts still remain unbeaten in the Spanish top flight having won four and drawn two to date, which includes wins against Granada 6-1, Celta Vigo 2-0, Real Betis 2-0 and a 3-1 win on the road at Osasuna.
The bigger picture shows that Atletico Madrid are now unbeaten in their last 22 matches overall in La Liga.
Onto Cadiz, and the newcomers have been one of the dark horses so far in this season’s La Liga campaign as the visitors have also picked up four wins so far this term with victories over Huesca, Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Eibar - all of which have been achieved away from home.
This is no mean feat for any team let alone one that is playing in the Spanish top tier for the first time since 2006, and the result at Real Madrid show that Cadiz are no pushovers and may well not be fazed by this trip to Atletico Madrid.
Having been out of the Spanish top flight for 14 seasons, there’s not much recent data to draw upon between these two teams as the last meeting between Atletico Madrid and Cadiz with Atletico as the hosts was all the way back to October 2005 where Atletico recorded a 3-0 victory.
Returning to the present day though, both teams have made a solid start to their respective campaigns and both are capable of hitting the back of the net in this clash as they seek to add to their points tally.
