Georgia will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League when they visit Armenia on Sunday.

Georgia are second in Group C2 having picked up four points from a possible six, while Armenia are third following a win and a defeat.

Armenia started with an away defeat to North Macedonia. Despite racking up 16 shots to the hosts’ nine, the visitors were eventually beaten 2-1.

North Macedonia scored with their only shot on target in Georgia’s second Nations League game, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Georgia are now just one game away from qualifying for next summer’s European Championship after beating Belarus 1-0 in a play-off match on Thursday.

Georgia were forced to enter the play-offs after finishing fourth in Group D, despite winning just two of their eight games throughout the campaign.

Head-to-head: Armenia and Georgia have faced each other five times over the years, with Georgia suffering just a single defeat along the way.

Georgia have claimed three victories in this fixture and won the most recent meeting 2-1 in a friendly match back in 2011.

It is worth pointing out that over 1.5 goals have been scored in four of the five meetings between Armenia and Georgia.

Team news: It goes without saying that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is Armenia’s star man. The Roma forward has a record of 29 goals in 86 appearances for his country, so Georgia will need to keep him quiet.

As for Georgia, Tornike Okriashvili comes into this clash having scored in back-to-back games for his country.

Okriashvili has started the season in red-hot form, notching up four goals and one assist for Anorthosis in the Cypriot top-flight.

This is destined to be a tight and cagey encounter between two evenly-matched sides, so a low-scoring draw is on the cards.
