Real Madrid will be going in search of back-to-back wins on Wednesday night when they play host to early La Liga strugglers, Real Valladolid, at the Bernabeu, following their 3-2 win away from home at Real Betis on the weekend.
Wednesday’s hosts started the season with a 0-0 draw on the opening day of this new Spanish top flight on the road against a stubborn Real Sociedad outfit, but they’ll now return to home soil on Wednesday for their first home match of the campaign.
The current La Liga title-holders finished last season’s campaign in impressive fashion as they won 10 of their final 11 matches overall which earned Real Madrid a well-deserved league title over their fierce rivals, Barcelona, and together with their unbeaten start to this new season, Real Madrid are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches overall.
Real Madrid are also unbeaten in their last 19 matches at the Bernabeu in la Liga too, so Wednesday’s visitors, Real Valladolid have a job on their hands to disrupt this impressive sequence of results.
Real Valladolid by comparison have made a slow start to this new La Liga season as the visitors have picked up just two points from their first three matches, drawing twice with Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo, both at home and both 1-1 stalemates.
In between, Real Valladolid suffered a 2-0 loss on the road at Real Betis and this hesitant start has resulted in Real Valladolid occupying a place in the lower reaches of the La Liga table in 17th place.
The bigger picture shows that Real Valladolid have managed just two wins out of their last 13 matches overall which were gained in victories over Deportivo Alaves and Real Betis in the run-in towards the end of last term, and things aren’t about to get any easier with this upcoming trip to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
Interestingly, 11 of Real Valladolid’s last 13 matches have resulted in under 2.5 goals so the prospect of a goal-glut when they meet Real Madrid appear to be slim.
Indeed, four of the previous five meetings between these two teams have also resulted in under 2.5 goals and Wednesday night could see another low-scoring affair unfold at the Bernabeu with Real Madrid taking the honours.
