We have reached the fourth round of the English League Cup and there are some exciting ties to look forward to this week. One of which takes place on Tuesday the 29th of September as Tottenham Hotspur entertain Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs come into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Newcastle United in the Premier League. Spurs can be happy with that performance and they dominated the match but failed to add to their only goal of the game. Then, as the clock was ticking down, Newcastle United were awarded a controversial penalty to equalise and take an undeserved point from the game.

That result means Spurs have won only one of their 3 Premier League matches this season and the victory came away at Southampton. However, the draw with Newcastle United means Spurs are undefeated in their last 4 games in all competitions. Two of those matches have come in the Europa League and both ended in victory.

Spurs were due to play Leyton Orient in the third round of the League Cup last week but the match was cancelled. Leyton Orient had several players test positive for COVID-19 and Spurs were awarded a bye into the fourth round.

Trends show both teams have scored in each of Tottenham Hotspur’s last 4 matches in all competitions. They have also seen over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of those 4 games.

Chelsea will be happy to have come away with a point from their Premier League match at West Bromwich Albion on the weekend. It was a game Chelsea were expected to win comfortably and it was a huge shock to see them go in at half time losing the match 3-0. A couple of changes at the interval by Frank Lampard saw an improvement by Chelsea in the second half and they managed to score 3 goals to rescue a draw.

It was the second Premier League game in succession Chelsea have failed to win following the 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool. However, The Blues did pick up a convincing victory at home against Barnsley in the third round of the League Cup, winning the match 6-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have seen plenty of goals in recent games, with over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of their last 4 in all competitions.

Team news and Tottenham Hotspur are set to make changes to their starting XI from the weekend. Tony Alderweireld, Sergio Reguilon, Erik Lamela, Dele Alli, and Steven Bergwijn could all start.

Chelsea will also make changes to their team with the possibility of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Olivier Giroud coming into the starting XI.

This has the makings of being an entertaining game with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals. Despite the expected changes to the personnel, there will be plenty of quality on offer and it would not be a surprise to see this game go all the way to penalties.
