Getafe to Grab 3pts against Goal-Shy Alaves

A pointless Alaves side welcome Getafe to the Estadio de Mendizorroza this weekend, where the visitors look to extend their 100% start to the season.

Alaves have lost both of their opening two matches and languish near the foot of the La Liga table heading into Saturday’s clash with Getafe. The hosts lost 1-0 at home to Real Betis and then 2-1 away at Granada, with their goalscoring issues carrying over from last season.

In their last 11 league games of the 2019/20 campaign, Alaves failed to score on eight occasions and only found the back of the net five times, conceding a whopping 22-goals.

Alaves only finished 3pts above the drop zone last season, and the signs are already showing that the 2020/21 campaign will also involve a relegation battle. Alaves only scored 34-goals in 38 league games last season and had the joint-second worst goal difference, -25, in the division. The signs don’t look good for Alaves this weekend as they have failed to beat Getafe in the duo’s last four encounters and have failed to score in two of those games.

Getafe have only played one match so far this season, but that game ended in a 1-0 win at home against Osasuna. Saturday’s guests only just missed out on European football last season, finishing 2pts behind Granada, who pinched seventh spot. Getafe had a disappointing end to last season, failing to win any of their last six matches, which cost them a place in Europe.

The end of season performances from both clubs, coupled with their start to the 2020/21 campaign, suggests that there won’t be many goals in Saturday’s clash and that Getafe are best placed to claim all 3pts.

Eight of Getafe’s last 10 league games of last season produced under 2.5 goals, as did their opening match against Osasuna last weekend. Nine of Alaves’ last 13 league games of the 2019/20 season also ended with under 2.5 goals being scored, as did their first game of the new campaign against Real Betis.

The hosts have injury concerns over Tomas Pina (foot), Lucas Perez Martinez (hamstring), Adrian Marin (foot), and Manu Garcia (foot) for the weekend clash with Getafe. The visitors only have two injuries of note this weekend: Amath Ndiaye Diedhiou (Phy discomfort) and Filip Manojlovic (back).

We’re expecting a tight and tense 90-minutes on Saturday but have backed Getafe to claim a narrow win in what should be a low-scoring match. Alaves have failed to score a goal in eight of their last 11 league games, and Getafe haven’t scored more than 1-goal in any of their last seven La Liga outings.
