Goteborg and Copenhagen to both score in Europa League clash
2571

Swedish outfit, Goteborg, hold home advantage at their Nya Ullevi ground for this Europa League 2nd qualifying round tie against their Danish counterparts, Copenhagen, as both teams look to progress to the next round where the winner will have a home tie against either Piast Gliwice or Hartberg.

Recent results have been fairly ordinary on the part of Goteborg as the hosts have managed just one win out of their last nine matches overall, and that came last time out in the domestic Allsvenskan with a resounding 3-0 win away from home at Falkenberg to end their drought.

Five draws and three defeats beforehand did little to improve Goteborg’s position of 12th place on the Swedish top flight ladder but it’s worth mentioning that six of their last nine matches have seen both teams score.

Home form has also let Goteborg down though in recent times as the hosts have won just one of their last eight matches in all competitions which came in the shape of a Svenska Cup 2-1 win against Malmo, while six of these eight matches also resulted in both teams scoring.

The Danish top flight season has only just got underway and it wasn’t a great start for Thursday’s visitors, Copenhagen, as they suffered an opening day 3-2 defeat away from home at OB Odense prior to this important 2nd qualifying round tie away at Goteborg.

After their Europa League exit to Manchester United back in mid-August, Copenhagen have played just two pre-season matches which ended in a 3-1 loss at home to Silkeborg and a 2-2 draw away from home at Lyngby, so current form isn’t exactly great at the moment.

Recent results away from home have also been disappointing for Copenhagen as the visitors have managed to pick up just one win from their last eight away matches in all competitions, which was a 1-0 win at Aalborg at the end of last season’s Superliga season.

Four defeats within these eight matches saw Copenhagen incur losses at AGF, Midtjylland, Manchester United and OB, but regardless of the results, five of Copenhagen’s last eight away matches have also seen both teams score.

With both teams struggling for consistency at the moment, the prospect of picking a straight winner seems tricky but both teams look likely to score here.
