Baggies to progress past league new boys

West Brom’s return to the Premier League from Championship did not get off to a great start, as the Baggies suffered a 3-0 home defeat by Leicester on home soil at the weekend.

On Wednesday night, the team from the Midlands face a different sort of challenge, as Slaven Bilic’s team welcome league new boys Harrogate Town to the Hawthorns for a Carabao Cup second-round clash.

The league cup does not look high on the Baggies list of priorities for this season, as they are one of the favourites to suffer relegation from the Premier League. This tie may be regarded as a distraction from their top-flight campaign but could be a good opportunity to get back to winning ways and regain a bit of confidence.

Bilic and his coaching staff may well go the other way and decide to field a slightly weakened team in the clash though, with a potentially difficult trip to face new-look Everton this weekend.

The Baggies have a slightly mixed recent record in the Carabao Cup, but they have won just three of their previous eight matches in the much-maligned competition. Last season they fell at the first hurdle suffering a 2-1 defeat against Millwall. The defeat was their second straight defeat in the competition.

Harrogate Town are enjoying their first-ever campaign in the football league after winning the play-offs in the National League last season.

Simon Weaver’s team have made a decent start to the campaign. The visitors kicked off their league campaign with a superb 4-0 away win at Southend United.

In their first league cup game, Town saw-off Tranmere Rovers on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw. While this competition is also not their priority, the visitors will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

Forebet predicts that West Brom will record a narrow win in a high-scoring clash to boost morale slightly at the club.
