Tottenham Hotspur and Everton will open their 2020/21 Premier League accounts on Sunday when the two sides clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the late kick-off.

Spurs finished sixth last season – ten points ahead of twelfth-place Everton. However, Jose Mourinho’s side eventually missed out on a Europa League spot following Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph.

Tottenham finished the previous campaign in style, going unbeaten in their last six league games. In fact, they only lost one of their final ten outings last term.

Mourinho's men are also on an eye-catching home run, winning their previous four games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It’s difficult to know exactly how Spurs will fare this season, but with serial winner Mourinho at the helm, don’t be surprised if Tottenham are challenging for a Champions League place.

With Giovani Lo Celso joining the club on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell, along with Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Spurs are arguably stronger now than they were last term.

Everton have also been extremely busy in the transfer window, with Carlo Ancelotti making a number of high-profile additions to his squad.

James Rodriguez has been signed from Real Madrid, Allan has joined from Napoli, while Abdoulaye Doucoure has been snatched from relegated Watford.

There is no denying that Everton have been moving in the right direction since Ancelotti replaced Marco Silva midway through last season.

However, the Toffees will ultimately be disappointed not to have secured a top-half finish last term, especially considering the club put together two separate five-game unbeaten runs shortly after Ancelotti’s arrival.

Still, many believe that Everton are now ready to break into the top half and challenge the country’s top sides once again.

Head-to-head: Remarkably, Everton haven't’ been Tottenham since 2012. Since then Spurs have claimed eight wins and seven draws in this fixture.

It’s also worth pointing out that Tottenham have scored over 2.5 goals in four of their previous seven meetings against Everton.

Team news: Harry Winks is Tottenham’s only major injury doubt, while Eric Dier completed his four-match suspension at the end of last season.

Everton will be without Cenk Tosun and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, with Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure all in line for debuts.

The Toffees are expected to kick on this season and improve on last term’s bottom-half finish, but they face a tough test on the opening day.

Considering Tottenham's remarkable head-to-head record in this fixture, Forebet predicts that Spurs will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory on Sunday.
