After a fairly solid sequence of results towards what proved to be the end of last season’s campaign, Monaco will be encouraged by their continuation in form at the start of this new Ligue 1 season as Sunday’s hosts head into this clash against Nantes, unbeaten after the first two matches of the new term.

Monaco ended their last campaign with just one defeat from their final six matches and that came in the shape of a 2-1 defeat away from home at Nice on the final day of the season prior to the lockdown, but they’d also previously registered wins against Angers, Amiens and Montpellier.

This season, Monaco started with a point in a 2-2 draw at home with Reims but then followed that up with a valuable 1-0 win on the road at Metz, so the hosts have picked up four points from their opening two matches and will be confident that they can get something at their Stade Louis II on Sunday too.

Monaco have lost just two of their last 12 matches overall at home and they’ve won their last four meetings on the trot against Nantes too.

Onto Nantes then, and the visitors ended last season sitting in 13th place on the Ligue 1 ladder after a dismal sequence of results produced just the one victory from their final eight matches of last term.

That win came in the shape of a slightly surprising 3-1 win at Marseille which followed back-to-back draws with Dijon and Metz, but five defeats within this eight-match period prevented Nantes from achieving a top half finish.

However, despite their lowly and disappointing 13th placed finish at the end of last season, Nantes are more than capable of being a very tricky opponent on the road as they picked up wins at Amiens, Lyon, Nimes, Saint-Etienne and most impressive of all, the aforementioned 3-1 victory at last season’s runners-up, Marseille.

The possibility of a draw shouldn’t be ruled out here either as this upcoming fixture could also be a low-scoring affair if previous exchanges between these two teams are anything to go by.

Eight of the previous 11 meetings between these two have resulted in under 2.5 goals and this trend could well continue on Sunday.
