Spartak Moscow will play host to lowly Arsenal Tula at their Otkrytiye Arena on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to extend their unbeaten start to this new Russian Premier League season to six matches.
Along with 3rd placed Sochi, Spartak Moscow remain the only other side yet to taste defeat in this Russian top flight campaign to date, having collected wins against Akhmat Grozny, Lokomotiv Moscow and Rotor Volgograd, along with picking up points in draws with Sochi and Ufa.
Spartak Moscow had ended the previous season on a high note too by recording back-to-back victories over Akhmat Grozny and Rubin Kazan, so Saturday’s hosts will head into this upcoming clash against Arsenal Tula on the back of a seven-match unbeaten sequence.
The hosts are also unbeaten in their last five matches on home turf at their Otkrytiye Arena which will give Spartak Moscow belief and confidence that they can add to their points tally here, along with having beaten Arsenal Tula 3-2 away from home in their previous encounter back in June.
Onto Arsenal Tula, and the visitors currently occupy a place in the bottom half of the Russian Premier League in 11th place but they do head into the nation’s capital on the back of a two-match run without defeat.
A 2-0 home win against Dinamo Moscow is not to be sneezed at and they further added to their points tally with a 1-1 draw at home with Khimki, although the latter result may well be slightly disappointing for Tula.
Arsenal Tula started this new Premier League season in slow fashion though as they drew 0-0 at home with Akhmat Grozny which was then followed by back-to-back defeats to Ufa (3-2 at home) and Krasnodar (2-0 away).
Wins on the road have come in fits and starts for Arsenal Tula as the visitors have picked up just five wins out of their last 14 matches on their travels in the Russian Premier League, and although they’ve picked up all three points on their last two visits to Moscow, they’re up against a solid looking Spartak Moscow outfit who will no doubt be keen to preserve their unbeaten status in this clash.
Spartak Moscow could therefore squeeze past their visitors here.
