Lecce are 18th in Serie A and on the verge of relegation back to Serie B. They go into the weekend just one point back of 17th-placed Genoa. The Giallorossi have all the pressure in the world on their shoulders going into matchday 38 with Parma arriving at the Via del Mare.
Parma are safe from relegation and have nothing to play for on the final day of the season. The reverse fixture between the clubs played at the Stadio Ennio Tardini saw Parma come away with a 2-0 victory.
Lecce are in between a rock and a hard place this weekend. Their Serie A future is not in their own hands. A win is just one step as Lecce would need Genoa to lose or draw.
A draw versus Parma and Genoa loss would do Lecce no good. Serie A uses head to head in the table standings. Genoa claimed four points from six in head to head matches meaning if the two sides finish level on points, it will be the Grifone who stay in Serie A.
Lecce are coming off of a win versus Udinese in midweek 2-1. It was their second win in three games in Serie A giving them hope of survival. Lecce have taken 17 points at home this season. It is one of the worst totals of any team.
Still, two of their last three home matches finished in wins. Lecce have allowed the most home goals in Serie A with 33. They have tallied 27 strikes on their own ground.
Parma, on the other hand, have taken 23 points from 54 on the road. They have won just twice in their last five games. The Crociati have posted a –4-goal difference on their travels.
Lecce could be without striker Marco Mancosu at the weekend. It is a huge blow as Mancosu is the team’s leading scorer with 14 strikes in all competitions. Nine of those goals did come from the penalty spots.
Giallorossi coach Fabio Liverani will have on-loan Genoa striker Gianluca Lapadula leading the line. He has scored 10 times and could send his parent club down to Serie A.
Parma also have a significant injury heading into the fixture. Andreas Cornelius scored in the reverse fixture but is set to miss the game this weekend through injury. It could be a big blow for Parma, but the club should be able to overcome his absence.
Lecce should come close to survival, but ultimately fail with a loss to Parma on Sunday. The game should see both teams score and over 2.5 goals scored.
