Milan to Celebrate Place in Europa League Qualifiers

We have reached the final day of the Italian Serie A season. At one point it appeared as though the season was never going to be finished but thankfully it will come to a proper conclusion on the 1st of August. What could be one of the most entertaining games of the day takes place at the San Siro as AC Milan welcome Cagliari.

The hosts are currently in 6th place on 63 points and cannot be caught by the teams below them. The visitors are in 13th place but could finish as high as 10th.

This season had the makings of being a disaster for AC Milan but they have managed to turn things around and secure a place in European football next season. Their most recent fixture came away against Sampdoria and AC Milan had little trouble in brushing aside the hosts, winning the match 4-1.

That result means AC Milan are undefeated in their last 12 games in all competitions, all of which have come since the lockdown. They started with a 0-0 draw against Juventus in the Coppa Italia and have since then won 8 games in Serie A, picking up 3 draws.

Home form in the League shows AC Milan are undefeated in their last 5 matches, winning 4 of those games. The victories have come against Roma, Juventus, Parma, and Bologna. Trends show both teams have scored in all of AC Milan's last 7 Serie A matches and they have succeeded in scoring 2 or more goals in 10 of their 11 most recent league games.

Cagliari come into the match having secured a superb 2-0 home victory over the champions Juventus. It was an important victory for Cagliari as they had been struggling to pick up wins in Serie A. In fact, prior to the defeat of Juventus, they had failed to win in 8 attempts. Of those 8 games, Cagliari lost 4 against Sampdoria and Lazio away plus Atalanta and Udinese at home.

Away form in the league shows Cagliari have failed to win any of their last 4 Serie A matches. They have picked up just a single victory on the road in their last 13 attempts and that came against bottom of the table SPAL. Cagliari have won just 5 of their last 35 away league games and that statistic sums it up.

Team news and AC Milan will be without Ante Rebic who is suspended. The trio of Alessio Romagnoli, Andrea Conti and Mateo Pablo Musacchio are on the treatment table and will play no part in the match.

Cagliari travel without Marko Rog who is suspended plus Christian Oliva, Luca Pellegrini and Radja Nainggolan are injured.

Neither team have anything specific to play for which could lead to an open match. There is no doubt AC Milan have the ability to score a few goals in this game but we also expect to see Cagliari find the back of the net. However, the hosts are the favourites to pick up maximum points.
