AC Milan will be aiming to cement their place in the top six with a positive result against Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday.

Milan currently sit four points behind fifth-place Roma, while Sampdoria are down in fifteenth – nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Sampdoria looked destined for the drop after losing their first three games after the restart. However, a remarkable run of five wins in six games has guided the club to safety.

Victories over Lecce, SPAL, Udinese, Cagliari, and Parma have turned their season around, although Sampdoria come into this game on the back on consecutive defeats.

After losing 2-1 to cross-city rivals Genoa, Sampdoria suffered a 2-0 defeat to newly-crowned Serie A champions Juventus on Sunday.

Despite their back-to-back defeats, former Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri will be extremely pleased with his players’ recent efforts.

Meanwhile, Milan are one of only two Serie A teams who remain unbeaten since the restart. A ten-game unbeaten run – which includes seven wins and three draws – has propelled the club up the table.

Stefano Pioli’s side are now firmly in control of their own destiny. If Milan win their remaining two games, they will be playing Europa League football next season.

The Rossoneri were held to a 1-1 draw by high-flying Atalanta last time out, but there is no shame in drawing with the division’s highest scoring side.

After all, Milan have already claimed the high-profile scalps of Roma, Lazio, and Juventus since the lay-off, so they will be confident of overcoming Sampdoria.

Head-to-head: The two teams played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture back in January, meaning Milan haven’t beaten Sampdoria in their last three attempts (two draws, one defeat).

However, Milan did the league double over Sampdoria in 2018, meaning the Rossoneri have only lost one of their previous five meetings with La Samp.

Team news: Centre-back Alex Ferrari and winger Felic D’Amico have both missed games for Sampdoria lately, so it’s unclear whether or not the duo will be fit for Wednesday’s clash.

Milan will be without injured centre-back pairing Mateo Musacchio and Alessio Romagnoli, with right-back Andrea Conti is also expected to miss out.

Sampdoria have done a remarkable job to avoid relegation this season, but Milan’s unbeaten run means the away side come into this game as overwhelming favourites.

Forebet predicts that AC Milan will score over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
