Verona and Lazio to both score in Sunday showdown

Although Hellas Verona have failed to win any of their last six matches overall in Serie A, Sunday’s hosts have at least picked up useful points in draws with Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Atalanta and Torino which will give them confidence when they entertain 4th placed Lazio at their Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

It’s been a reasonable campaign in the Italian top flight this season for Hellas Verona who occupy a satisfactory 9th place on the Serie A ladder but recent results have dropped off for the hosts and Lazio will no doubt be keen to take advantage of this.

Verona have managed to pick up just one win out of their previous nine matches overall which was a 3-2 home win over Parma, but defeats away from home at Brescia and Roma have offset the points they picked up in their recent stalemates.

Sunday’s hosts are more than capable of making life difficult for their visitors though as five wins from their last eight matches at home testify.

On the other hand, 10 of Hellas Verona’s 17 home matches to date have seen both teams score.

4th placed Lazio are guaranteed to finish in their current position in Serie A as they hold an 11-point cushion ahead of 5th placed Roma with just three league matches of the Serie A season remaining, but the visitors will be keen to press on in these latter stages of this campaign and gain the most favourable placings in next season’s Champions League.

Lazio ended a worrying sequence of five matches without a win in the Italian top flight on Thursday night with a 2-1 home win against Cagliari and they’ll be hoping they can carry this momentum into Sunday’s clash at Hellas Verona.

Four defeats from their previous five matches though is a little concerning and this perhaps makes the proposition of a Lazio away win here not quite as straightforward as it may have been before the lockdown, as the visitors have slipped to losses against AC Milan, Lecce, Sassuolo and Juventus.

Lazio have also recorded just one away win from their previous outings on their travels, so the goals market appeals here as 13 of Lazio’s 14 away matches have also resulted in both teams scoring and this looks a likely outcome in this clash against Hellas Verona.
