AC Milan seek to solidify top six finish in Serie A versus Sassuolo
2272

A resurgent AC Milan are unbeaten in six straight games under coach Stefano Pioli and can solidify their top six place on Tuesday night with a win over Sassuolo.

AC Milan are fighting tooth and nail with sixth-placed Napoli for the final Europa League qualification place. Both teams are on 56 points and a win would be a massive step in the right direction for Pioli and his players.

Standing in their way of three points are Sassuolo. The Neroverdi are unbeaten in six straight games under coach Roberto De Zerbi. Their last two games both ended in draws and that includes a wild 3-3 draw with Juventus.

Sassuolo are nearly out of the running for the Europa League as the gap between themselves in eighth and AC Milan is eight points. A win against AC Milan would take them within five points, but the gap is still large even then.

AC Milan are unbeaten in seven straight Serie A games against Sassuolo and five of those games ended in wins. Their fixture played earlier this season saw the teams finish nil-nil.

Sassuolo are unbeaten in four straight home games claiming eight points from their last 12. Conceding goals has been an issue for the Neroverdi with 30 allowed at the Mapei Stadium.

The Rossoneri, on the other hand, have not lost in their last five games in Serie A. They have taken nine points from 15 possible. Their biggest issue has been scoring goals away from the San Siro. AC Milan have tallied just 26 scores in 17 games.

AC Milan average 1.5 goals per game away from home. Forward Ante Rebic leads the Rossoneri in goals with 11 in Serie A. January signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic has bagged five Serie A goals since arriving.

Pioli has three players on the injury list heading into the match. The coach could be without the likes of Mateo Musacchio, Leo Durate, and Samu Castillejo, who are all three suffering from injury.

Sassuolo could be without four players on Tuesday night as Jeremy Toljan, Gregoire Defrel, Pedro Obiang, and Filippo Romagna are on the injury list. Romagna is out for the remainder of the season while the other three Neroverdi could be available if fit in time.

Five of the last seven games between Sassuolo and AC Milan finished with under 2.5 goals scored. Four of those game saw AC Milan keep clean sheets against the Neroverdi. Can they shut out Sassuolo once more?
