European-chasers Leicester City and Sheffield United face off at the King Power Stadium on Thursday in a hugely important battle in the race for a top-four finish.
Leicester are currently just inside the top four – level with fifth-place Manchester United on 59 points, while Sheffield United sit five points behind.
A win for Sheff Utd would take them to within two points of Leicester, but a win for the Foxes would see them cement fourth place and move to within one point of third-place Chelsea.
Leicester have been in poor form since the restart, winning just one of their last six games. In fact. Brendan Rodgers’ side have been in freefall since the turn of the year.
The Foxes have played 15 Premier League games in 2020 – winning four, drawing five, and losing six.
Their most recent defeat came at the hands of relegation-threatened Bournemouth. Jamie Vardy gave Rodgers’ men a comfortable lead, but a second-half capitulation eventually saw Leicester lose 4-1.
Leicester built their early-season success on a strong defence, but the team has been leaking a lot of goals recently.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s achievements have also come about thanks to their defensive record, although the Blades have managed to maintain their solidity since the restart.
It looked as though Chris Wilder’s side would slide down the table after suffering back-to-back to Newcastle and Manchester United at the end of June.
However, Sheff Utd have since taken 10 points from a possible 12, with victories over European-rivals Tottenham, Wolves, and Chelsea, along with a draw against in-form Burnley.
It’s worth pointing out that only Liverpool have lost fewer away games than Sheff Utd this term. Indeed, the Blades have only lost four of their previous 28 away games in all competitions.
Head-to-head: Leicester beat Sheff Utd 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in August, taking their winning streak to three games in this fixture.
In fact, Leicester haven’t lost to Sheff Utd in any of their last seven meetings in all competitions – winning four and drawing three.
Team news: Key duo James Maddison and Ben Chilwell are injury doubts for Leicester. Ricardo Pereira is out for the season, while Caglar Soyuncu is suspend after being sent off last time out.
As for Sheff Utd, Chris Wilder will be hoping that he can call upon Luke Freeman, John Fleck, and Chris Basham after they all picked up knocks last weeks.
This is set to be an intriguing battle between two exciting teams. Sheff Utd are the in-form side, but Leicester should be able to avoid defeat.
Forebet predicts that this game is likely to end in a low-scoring draw.
