Arsenal host Leicester for vital clash

The Premier League dishes up a hugely important game on Tuesday as European-chasers Arsenal and Leicester City go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently sit seventh on 49 points, while third-place Leicester are three points inside the top four on 58 points.

The Gunners have been in excellent form since the turn of the year, going unbeaten in eight league games leading up to the break.

Disappointing defeats to Manchester City and Brighton after the lay-off ended their promising run, but three straight victories over Southampton, Norwich, and Wolves have quickly put the club back on track.

Only Liverpool (31) have picked up more points than Arsenal (25) in 2020, while only Man City (27) and Man Utd (24) have scored more than Arsenal (23) in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

Furthermore, three consecutive clean sheets have significantly enhanced the Gunners defensive record. Only Man City (10) and Man Utd (10) have conceded fewer league goals than Arsenal (11) in 2020.

Meanwhile, Leicester managed their first win since the restart last time out. A 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace ended a three-game unbeaten which saw the Foxes draw with Watford and Brighton and lose to Everton.

Unlike Arsenal, Brendan Rodgers’ side have endured a poor start to 2020. They have only won four of their 13 league games since the turn of the year – drawing four and losing five.

Leicester were miles clear of fourth place earlier in the campaign. But the Foxes now lead Chelsea by just a single point, with fifth-place Man Utd three points behind.

Thankfully for Leicester, Jamie Vardy seems to have rediscovered his scoring boots. The division’s top scorer ended a personal drought with a double against Palace and also surpassed a century of Premier League goals in the process.

Head-to-head: Leicester racked up back-to-back wins over Arsenal by winning the reverse fixture 2-0 back in November. The Foxes have now won three of their previous four league games against the Gunners.

However, over the past six games between these two sides, both teams have won three games each, with the home side winning on every occasion.

Team news: Arsenal will be without long-term absentees Gabriel Martinelli, Bernd Leno, Pablo Mari, and Calum Chambers, while Mesut Ozil and Nicolas Pepe are both minor injury doubts.

As for Leicester, Rodgers is waiting on the fitness of key trio James Maddison, Ben Chilwell, and Ayoze Perez. Right-back Ricardo Pereira is out for the season.

Forebet predicts a win for Arsenal and more than 2.5 goals in the fixture.
