Newcastle expected to pile pressure on Bournemouth

Bournemouth will be looking to kick-start their push for survival when they welcome Newcastle United to the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Cherries find themselves just inside the bottom three on goal difference and are one of three sides locked on 27 points near the foot of the Premier League table.

Two defeats since the restart have left Bournemouth fighting for their lives. Eddie Howe’s side were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace in their first game back before losing 1-0 to Wolves last time out.

Bournemouth failed to register a single shot on goal against Wolves and only managed to hit the target once against Palace. Indeed, a lack of firepower in attack has been the south coast side’s downfall throughout the 2019/20 campaign.

Newcastle have also struggled for goals this season, but Steve Bruce’s men have returned from the unexpected lay-off in decent form.

An emphatic 3-0 win over Sheffield United was followed by a hard-fought draw with Aston Villa, and the Magpies now sit 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

In fact, Newcastle are only six points behind seventh-place Tottenham Hotspur and will now have their sights set on a top-half finish.

Newcastle were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City on Sunday, but there is no shame in that. Man City dominated the entire game, but Newcastle defended well to keep the score down.

It’s fair to say that Newcastle have enjoyed playing Bournemouth in recent years. The Magpies are unbeaten in their previous four games against the Cherries – winning two and drawing two.

Goals from defensive duo DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark helped Newcastle to claim a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in November. A similar scoreline is expected this time around, especially as Bournemouth have only won four of their previous 25 league games.

And to make matters worse for the home side, Newcastle have only lost two of their last ten league games and are unbeaten in their previous four.

Bournemouth will be without Simon Francis, Philip Billing, and Charlie Daniels due to injury, while Callum Wilson is suspended after an accumulation of yellow cards.

As for Newcastle, Matt Ritchie is a doubt with a hamstring problem, but Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark remain long-term absentees.

This is likely to be a tight game with very few clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. However, the away side are expected to come out on top.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score, but Newcastle are likely to extend their promising run with another victory on Wednesday.
