The race for the Scudetto in Italy is still very much alive. Whether Antonio Conte’s Internazionale will still be in it only time will tell. The Nerazzurri head into Wednesday evenings home game with Sassuolo nine points behind leaders Juventus, but with a game in-hand.
This is a must-win game for Conte and his team if they are to have any hope of mounting a realistic title challenge for the rest of the season.
Inter’s most recent results in Serie A have been a mixed bag, as although they defeated Sampdoria 2-1 in their first game back after the restart, they had suffered two possibly fatal defeats to their Scudetto hopes at title rivals Juventus and Lazio. The latter are also five points ahead of Inter in second place.
The Nerazzurri can at least rely on their strong home form in Serie A, as they are unbeaten in nine games at the Giuseppe Meazza. However, the fact that four of those games have ended in draws may prove costly at the end of the season.
Sassuolo are midtable in Serie A, seven points clear of the relegation zone, so should be safe from the spectre of relegation this season.
The visitors have played just one game since the season restart, suffering a 4-1 defeat at prolific Atalanta. The game continued a run of high-scoring matches in the Italian top-flight for Sassuolo, as four of their last five league games in Serie A have produced over 2.5 goals.
The visitors do not have a great away record of late, winning just one of their last five league matches on their travels, while suffering three defeats in the process.
One positive for Sassuolo is that they have beaten Inter in four of the last six meetings between the two teams in all competitions.
Forebet predicts that Inter will improve their record against Sassuolo by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
