Can Chelsea stop ruthless Man City?
5223

Top-four rivals Chelsea and Manchester City go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League’s late kick-off on Thursday.

Consecutive victories since the break have kept Man City 2nd, while Chelsea remain 4th – 12 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

Chelsea return to action with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, but the Blues were forced to come from behind to claim all three points after going behind in the first half.

Kortney Hause gave Villa the lead just before half time, but two goals in two second-half minutes from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud handed Chelsea the victory.

In fairness, the statistics suggest that Frank Lampard’s men deserved the win. Chelsea racked up 18 shots – six on target – and recorded 74% possession.

Meanwhile, Man City built on their 3-0 victory over Arsenal last week with another convincing win, this time against a helpless Burnley side.

Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez both bagged a brace, while David Silva also scored, as the Cityzen demolished the Clarets 5-0 at the Etihad.

Guardiola’s men passed Burnley to death on Monday, racking up 72% possession and creating endless goalscoring opportunities. In all honesty, City should've scored a lot more.

Sure, Liverpool aren’t going to be caught. But Man City have returned from the lay-off with a point to prove, and they are clearly happy to delay the Reds’ title party for a little while longer.

The head-to-head record between these two sides makes for grim reading for Chelsea. Man City have won six of their previous seven meetings with the Blues in all competitions.

Chelsea’s sole victory during that period came in 2018. Since then, the two sides have met twice in the Premier League, with an aggregate scoreline of 8-1 in favour of Man City.

The Blues will be without defender Fikayo Tomori for the visit of Man City, while winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is major doubt after missing the game against Villa with an ankle problem.

As for Man City, Pepe Guardiola made eight changes to his staring XI in the previous game, so he is likely to rotate heavily again on Thursday given the jam-packed schedule.

Chelsea come into this game on a run of three straight wins in all competitions, but in-form Man City are likely to put an end to their promising streak.

Forebet predicts that Manchester City will keep a clean sheet while scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory over Chelsea.
